Lifeguards rescue teen from the surf at the Oceanfront

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A teen was rescued from the surf by lifeguards at the Oceanfront Saturday afternoon. 

Dispatchers say it happened near 26th Street just before 2 p.m. 

According to Virginia Beach EMS Division Chief Bruce Nedelka, multiple lifeguards went in the water to help five people that were struggling. One of the teenage boys was pulled to safety by the lifeguards. 

The boy was taken to a local hospital and Nedelka says he was in critical condition at the time.
