HARRISONBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A James Madison University student from Williamsburg is at the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries following a hit-and-run crash Friday night.

Jared Antle, 19, was trying to get into a vehicle that was stopped in the right lane in the 400 block of West Market Street just before midnight when a black Honda Pilot struck Antle and the vehicle he was entering, police say.

Antle suffered serious head injuries and doctors are working to reduce brain swelling, according to family members.

Harrisonburg police say the driver of the Pilot immediately fled on foot following the crash. Officers have yet to arrest the suspect, but say the vehicle registration read VKL-2701.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Harrisonburg Police Department at 540-437-2672.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with Antle’s medical bills
