James Monroe statue vandalized at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – William & Mary is investigating racially charged wording in marker on the school’s statue of James Monroe.

According to the school’s spokesperson, the words “slave owner” were written in marker on the statue of the nation’s fifth president in front of Tucker Hall on September 29.

The incident is still under investigation.
