Investigators search for answers after Franklin man found dead in the woods

FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — A homicide investigation is underway after authorities say a Franklin man was found dead in the woods.

Deputies say Kenneth Moore was last seen alive in Franklin the night before his body was found. His death has left so many unanswered questions for deputies.

“Horrific,” is the way Sussex County Investigator John Ogburn described the scene.

Ogburn has a big mystery on his hands.

“There’s not much to work with,” Ogburn said.

Deputies were called out to an area off of Jerusalem Plank Road on Jan. 12.

“A hunter that hunts the property was looking for a dog and called it in as a body found in a ditch,” Ogburn added.

The ditch is in the Littleton area about a half-mile from the Southampton County line.

Investigators say someone dumped Moore’s body. His throat had been cut. They don’t know where the crime took place.

“It’s very difficult,” Ogburn said. “There’s nothing to go of off other than just the body, so you have to work from there and see where it leads.”

Deputies hope to soon have the answers they are looking for. Hope someone can lead them in the right direction to give Moore’s family some closure.

“You always want to bring justice, especially to a grieving family,” Ogburn added.
