SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Part of Nansemond Parkway is expected to be closed for several hours as Suffolk emergency crews investigate a vehicle accident that resulted in a hazardous materials spill.

The single vehicle crash happened Thursday at 10:48 a.m. in the 4500 block of Nansemond Parkway.

A truck driver over-corrected and the vehicle ended up in a ditch, according to police. No one was injured, but a portable tank containing a large amount of lawn insecticides spilled.

First responders contained the spill and there is reportedly no danger to the public or waterways, but it’s going to take a few hours to complete clean-up efforts.

Public Works crews have placed detour signs in the area affected by the road closure.

WAVY.com will provide an update when the road is reopened.
