NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — With Norfolk’s Ikea just months away from opening, the location now has a manager and needs more than 200 workers before its spring 2019 opening.
The Swedish-founded company announced local resident Charlie Plisco as manager on Thursday in a ceremony that featured Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander.
“Ikea recognizes the customer base that exists in the Virginia area, and I look forward to providing existing and future customers a store of their own,” Plisco said.
Thursday’s announcement also included plans for hiring approximately 250 team members for the future 331,000-square-foot store located on Northampton Blvd. near I-64.
According to an Ikea press release, the location will include roughly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room settings, a supervised play area for children and a 450-seat restaurant featuring traditional Swedish and American food. It’ll be the company’s 50th U.S. location.
