PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Repairs are finally being made to the crumbled wall of a historic Portsmouth cemetery.
Two years ago, Hurricane Matthew brought down part of the brick wall at Cedar Grove Cemetery near Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
The old wall was painted with a mural depicting of the War of 1812.
The Cedar grove Cemetery Foundation tells 10 On Your Side repairs are being made mostly from a FEMA grant with help from the state and city.
A new brick and wrought iron wall is expected to be built by the end of next month.
The Foundation hopes to one day have another mural. Drivers could see lane closures in the area while the work is being done.
