HRT announces extended light rail, ferry service for New Year’s

Norfolk Light Rail The Tide Generic

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — If you’re look to ring in 2019 with a night on the town, Hampton Roads transit has some good news for you.

The Tide light rail and the Elizabeth River Ferry will be running until 2 a.m. from New Year’s Eve into Jan. 1 for those who may be attending one of several events in Norfolk or Portsmouth.

HRT says rail service will run every 30 minutes starting at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31, with the last train leaving MacArthur Square for Newtown Road at about 1:30 a.m.

Much like light rail, the ferries will run every 30 minutes. The last ferry boat will depart Waterside 1:45 a.m.
