Hole getting larger on Virginia Beach street concerns neighbors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Neighbors off Coastaway Drive say they need help to fix a hole in the road.

They say it’s a small hole on the outside, but it’s much larger underneath.

“My neighbors stuck a board down there and said it was at least two feet deep and they couldn’t tell how far it went side to side,” said neighbor Pepper Lewis.

People living on this street say this road was paved a few months back and that’s when they first noticed the hole.

They say they called the city and the city came to patch it up. But they tell me it didn’t last long.

“They came one more time, and made the same mistake in filling it and of course it didn’t work either,” he said.

Residents say a child was riding his bike over it when it caved in the second time.

“We’re all concerned this road’s going to cave in and we’re not talking a pot hole here,” said Lewis.

Neighbors say they reached out to the city again, but say it’s been sitting like this for weeks.

“I’m surprised at the lack of response by the city I don’t know if it has something to do with they have certain neighborhoods that are priorities or what I’m at a loss,” he said.

10 On Your Side called public works to see if we could help get some answers.

The city says they will have crews out to inspect it Friday They say from the look of it, it’s probably a public utilities water issue.
