The Virginia Living Museum is asking for the community’s help to name their new sea turtle. The museum has been taking name suggestions from social media and will use the suggestions to make an official ballot. Then community members will be able to vote for their favorite.
The new addition was born in September 2015 and was found in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. The turtle was transferred to the Virginia Living Museum in November 2017 after spending time at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. The turtle was introduced into the Chesapeake Bay Tank once it reached 33 pounds. The turtle was only 15 pounds when it arrived. But it is still too young to determine its gender.
The museum will leave the turtle on display in the tank until it has matured fully and is ready to be released.
The Virginia Living Museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd in Newport News and is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. museum admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 3-12. Every Thursday this summer, through August 30, guests can enjoy extended museum hours until 8 p.m.
