RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond International Airport (RIC) was closed for several hours Friday morning after heavy rain caused flash flooding in the region.
RIC, which received seven inches of rain overnight, reopened at 9 a.m.
RIC said in a tweet that flood waters have receded on area roadways, the terminal and garage parking areas are accessible and the airfield has clear paths for aircraft.
Incredible images sent to 8News by Mark Herzog show roads in and out of long-term parking flooded earlier this morning. He said some people didn’t make it out before their cars began to float.
Passengers are encouraged to check the status of flights on their airline’s website or app before they head to the airport.
