Virginia May 21 COVID-19 update: Hospitalizations hit lowest point in over a year

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Health has released its latest coronavirus statistics on Friday.

Daily cases in the state are down from yesterday with 396 cases being reported in the last 24 hours. Current hospitalizations rose to 619.

Overall, the state has reported 672,312 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The state’s daily positivity rate is at 2.9%.

As far as COVID-19 related deaths, the state has recorded a total of 11,074 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.

  • New cases: +396 (672,312 total)
  • New deaths: +6 (11,068 total)
  • Current hospitalizations: +32 patients (619 currently)
  • Percent of positive tests: 2.9%
  • Vaccine doses administered: 7,760,493
