Hampton woman celebrates her 106th birthday

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — 1912 marks the sinking of the Titanic, the election of president Woodrow Wilson — and the birth of Hampton resident Edith Hamlin.

On Thursday, she celebrated her 106th birthday.

A healthcare provider called Divine Health Care threw her a party.

She’s their oldest patient, and she says the world has changed a lot.

The biggest surprise? Seeing Barack Obama become president.

She doesn’t have any secrets to a long life, but has something she’s always tells young people.

“Take care of yourself while you’re young because you can not do it while you’re old. Go out and have a good time but know when to stay in and rest ya self!”

Another special surprise for Edith: 6 year old CJ Carter. CJ’s birthday was on Thursday as well, and he sang Edith happy birthday.

Edith’s wish this year — seeing everyone back together for her 107th birthday next year.
