Hampton police investigate fatal motorcycle crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are investigating  a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist Thursday night.

They say the crash happened just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Greenbriar Avenue and Victoria Boulevard. 

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed a male motorcyclist was heading east on Victoria through the intersection at a high rate of speed when he struck a blue Dodge Charger.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Dontae Lamont Cooke, 28, of Hampton. 

Police say Cooke was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. A 2-year-old girl who was traveling in the Charger was also taken to the hospital with injuries considered non life-threatening. 

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

Note: Police originally said Cooke’s motorcycle was heading south on Greenbriar, but later clarified he was heading east on Victoria.
