HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — While many citizens were out at the polls, others were celebrating democracy with the future voters of America.
The Hampton branch of the NAACP hosted a “Democracy Party” at the Comfort Zone Restaurant, along with the Virginia League of Conservation Voters.
One of the event’s organizers said it’s all about engaging young people and teaching them about the election process.
“One of the reasons we are having entertainment for the kids is to get them engaged with civic duties and the parents have taken them with them to the polls,” said Ruth Curtis with the Virginia League of Conservation Voters.
The kids weren’t old enough to vote in the “real” election – so, they just voted on the best candy instead. They also participated in games, face painting, won prizes and more.
