Hampton McDonald’s closed after fryer fire

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters responded to a fryer fire in the kitchen of the McDonald’s restaurant on Big Bethel Road Saturday afternoon.

Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum says the fire happening around 2 p.m.

It started in the fryer and the hood system was able to extinguish it, so it did not spread anywhere else, Chittum said.

The restaurant will remain closed until they pass inspections for code compliance. At this time, they do not know when that reopen date will be.
