Hampton in-home caregiver pleads guilty in Newport News elder fraud case

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — After using credit and debit card account information from an elderly client, a woman pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft on Monday.

47-year-old Sandra Payne was employed by an elderly client to be an in-home caregiver. While working for the patient, she acquired data used to spend nearly $21,000 at stores in the Tidewater area.

Payne is back in court in May and she faces a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison.
