Gunshot victim walks into hospital after Newport News police respond to shots fired call

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A gunshot victim walked into an area hospital not long after police responded to a shots fired call Wednesday night in the 800 block of 35th Street.

The 911 call for the shots fired came in at 7:55 p.m., and at 8:12 another call was received about the walk-in gunshot victim, according to Master Police Officer Brandon Maynard with Newport News Police. 

The 21-year-old Newport News man was shot in the back, but is expected to live.
