Grand jury to hear case of man charged in fatal hit-and-run

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A grand jury will hear the case of a man charged in the death of a driver during a New Year’s Day crash.

Police say the crash happened near the intersection of South Independence Boulevard and Bonney Road. The man hit, 42-year-old Thomas Gordon Hitt, was taken to the hospital and later died.

Tyeler Hutton is accused of leaving the scene on foot following the crash. He was arrested more than a week after the crash.

Three charges against Hutton were certified to a grand jury on April 20, including felony hit and run resulting in death. A fourth charge of reckless driving was withdrawn, or nolle prossed.
