CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Gilmerton Bridge reopened Sunday, after it got stuck in the open position.
Traffic officials said continued repairs are required and that there will be an extended opening on Monday as technicians continue to troubleshoot the problem. Motorists can use the I-64 High Rise Bridge or the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge as an alternate route.
The Gilmerton Bridge is back open to road traffic. Continued work will require an extended bridge lift on Monday, January 15 at 10 a.m. Additional extended lifts may be necessary as crews continue to troubleshoot.

Chesapeake dispatch says it received the first call about the situation just after 9:30 a.m. Friday. It is unclear what may have caused the bridge to get stuck open.
VDOT said motorists could expect delays on U.S. Route 13 due to an “incident.” Officials in Chesapeake said it is stuck due to a mechanical issue.
