General Dynamics in Portsmouth placed on lockdown after report of active shooter

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The General Dynamics facility in Portsmouth was placed on lockdown Thursday due to an incident involving Navy personnel.

Police said in a tweet dispatch received a call about an active shooter around 11:45 a.m. aboard a barge next to the USS Carter Hall in the NASSCO Shipyard. 

A spokesperson for the Navy confirmed to 10 On Your Side there were no shots fired in the incident and no victims.

Portsmouth police completed a sweep of the area at 2:35 p.m. The ship’s security team also completed a sweep, but as of 3 p.m. the ship remained on lockdown.
