VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia  Beach Fire Department is teaming with Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story to dedicate a joint fire station this week.

Officials say the new station will provide better service and quicker response times to the North End of the Oceanfront and Shore Drive.

U.S. Navy and city officials say both parties agree that a joint station will add protection of military and civilian populations in this area.

Because of the partnership, fifteen new firefighters will put up at an existing fire department on the base.

A ceremony dedicating the station is being held Friday, June 22, at 11:30 a.m.
