Former Newport News firefighter sentenced on indecent exposure charges

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A former Newport News firefighter was sentenced Monday on charges of indecent exposure.      

Sidney Michael Lucas was accused of exposing himself to a woman on two separate occasions. 

Lucas, a U.S. Navy veteran, worked for the Newport News Fire Department from 2006 until his resignation earlier this year. He was named the Virginia Firefighter of the Year and received the Governor’s Fire Service Award in March 2017.

In court on Monday, Lucas pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to 24 months, with 22 months and 40 days suspended.
