Former Chesapeake deputy charged with sexual battery of inmate


CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A former deputy with the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on a sexual battery charge, officials say.

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Timothy Burnside is charged with sexual battery of an inmate by an employee, and was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Burnside was a deputy in Chesapeake for 17 years and assigned to court security, the sheriff’s office said.

The release said the sheriff’s office fired Burnside on Feb. 16.

Burnside is scheduled to be arraigned on March 5.
