NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The first Carnival Cruise ship to launch from Norfolk this season will be the newly-renovated Carnival Sunrise on Monday for its maiden voyage.

The sold-out, seven-day cruise will mark first time a Carnival ship launches from the Decker Half Moone Cruise Center at Nauticus in nearly two years.

Carnival Sunrise, formerly named Carnival Triumph, underwent an extensive and expensive makeover in Spain, according to Nauticus.

New features like a new barbecue restaurant from Food Network Star Guy Fieri, a new water park, a ropes course and more were added.

Monday’s cruise will be the first of several five-day and seven-day voyages the ship will depart on from Norfolk to the Bahamas, Bermuda and other destinations this season.

Norfolk will be one of three home ports from the 893-foot-long cruise ship.

Nauticus says a second Carnival ship, Carnival Radiance, will begin departing from the Norfolk for destinations like Cuba in 2020.
