HAYES, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters for a volunteer department responded to a car fire Tuesday evening in Hayes.

The Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue said in a Facebook post it was dispatched to off Carmine’s Island Road just after 5:30 p.m.

Arriving minutes later, units found a car engulfed in flames.

The Facebook post said the car was parked in front of a carport with another vehicle and several sets of tires. Dramatic photos showing the car on fire were included in the post.

Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control.

It’s unclear what may have caused the fire.
