Firefighters investigating house fire in Portsmouth


PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth firefighters are looking for the cause of a house fire that happened Tuesday morning.

Around 1 a.m. they were called to a house on Wool Avenue, which is in the Mount Hermon neighborhood off High Street. Firefighters told 10 On Your Side no one was inside or hurt when they arrived.

All of the home’s occupants were outside when crews arrived. Officials said the fire was marked under control just after 2 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Several house fires have happened in Portsmouth recently, one of which was fatal.

Recent fires include:

  • June 13: Two people died after fire on Atlanta Avenue.
  • Aug. 2: A vacant house caught fire on Charleston Avenue.
  • Aug. 4: Three people were displaced in a house fire on Highland Avenue
