SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters battled a debris fire at the John C. Holland Enterprises landfill Friday night.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue officials say a citizen alerted emergency dispatchers about the fire around 6:45 p.m. when they spotted smoke in the 4800 block of Nansemond Parkway.

According to Deputy Chief James Dickens, there were several, large piles of debris, including tires and timbers, on fire right next to each other.

There were no homes threatened by the flames and no injuries reported from the incident Dickens said.

Units from the Chesapeake Fire Department and Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the fire.
