VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 25-foot sailboat went up in flames while moored to a backyard dock in Virginia Beach Monday morning.
Dispatchers tell WAVY.com the fire was reported in the 2300 block of Windward Shore Drive around 8 a.m.
According to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, crews had the fire out by 8:30 a.m. There was no one on board at the time and the fire was contained to the boat.
Firefighters used foam to douse the fire because of concern there may have been fuel in the boat, but it was determined there was no fuel on the boat, according to spokesperson Art Kohn.
Crews put booms around the boat to contain the foam.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although fire investigators do not suspect foul play and believe the fire was weather related.
