Father charged in connection to murder of his son in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — A father has been charged with 2nd degree murder in connection to the death of his 49-year-old son on Friday in Franklin. 

According to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call for a domestic disturbance in the 28000 block of General Thomas Highway involving a shooting. 

Officers say Luciano Myrick of Franklin was treated by first responders before he was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries. 

The victim’s father, 70-year-old McKinley Myrick of Franklin, was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and shooting in an occupied dwelling, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Myrick is being held at the Southampton County Jail with no bond. His first court appearance will be on Sept. 25.
