Family of Va. Beach woman who died in a car crash honor her with day of service

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — More than 200 people spent their Saturday giving back to honor the memory of a young woman from Virginia Beach.

The family of Paige Neubauer organized an inaugural “Do Good Day” in her honor.

Neubauer was 21 years old when she died in a crash on I-81 on March 31, 2017. She was a junior at Virginia Tech.

Family members say the slogan of the event was a phrase Paige came up with and lived by, “Kindness is just love with its workboots on.”

Brent Neubauer, Paige’s father, says “It was the motto of our daughter. It’s how she lived her life and we’re trying to pay it forward to those less fortunate.”

Paige’s mother, Lynn, told 10 On Your Side, “My heart is soaring and it’s so nice to have a focus today instead of a big cloud.”

The volunteers spent all day helping elderly families with yard work, making sandwiches to feed the homeless, making “blessing bags” with supplies for people in need and more.
