VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WAVY) — The family of a pizza delivery driver who was shot and killed in Chesapeake on Thursday is pleading for answers.
The shooting happened Thursday night at the Marina Point Apartments on Canal Drive. Chesapeake Police say they found 30-year-old Stephanie Brainerd dead in her car.
On Sunday, her family traveled up from her native state of Georgia to talk about her sudden and tragic death.
They met at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, near where Brainerd lived with her family of four. They would visit the park often as a family for outings.
Family members tell 10 On Your Side that Brainerd was working as a delivery driver temporarily to provied for her family.
“The people that did this to my sister… she didn’t deseve this,” said Krissy Wood, Brainerd’s sister.
“Stephanie was a devoted mother-of-two, a dedicated sister and a loving daughter, and amazing person all around,” Wood added.
She said the loss of Brainerd will be the hardest for her kids.
“My nephew and my neice that are going to suffer for this, for the rest of their life without their mother, and it’s not fair to my niece and my nephew at all, ” Wood said.
Brainerd’s family just want answers for why this had to happen. “Whoever did this, just please come forward. That’s all we ask,” said Wood.
While they wait for justice, Brainerd’s family says they will remember her in the best way they know how.
“Stephanie may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. She still lives in every one of our hearts. Please keep our family in your prayers as we continue to grieve and recover from this loss thank you,” Brainerd said.
Brainerd’s family is planning a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. at Chanello’s Pizza in Chesapeake on George Washington Highway.
