Family of five displaced after Suffolk house catches fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — No one was hurt in late night fire in Suffolk, but officials say five people were displaced.

Crews responded to the Parker-Riddick Village Apartments on Stacey Drive around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived, officials say firefighters could see smoke coming from the second floor and roof. Everyone was out of the home at the time.

Officials say the fire was contained to a second floor room where it started. The upper floor sustained heat and smoke damage from the flames.

The Red Cross is helping the family — one adult and four children — who was displaced by the fire.  Officials are still investigating the cause.
