NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing charges after a car crash sent a family of four to the hospital on Sunday.

Newport News police said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hogan Drive and Jefferson Avenue — at the Marketplace at Tech Center — around 5:45 p.m.

During the investigation police discovered the adults in the car had a physical argument leading up to the crash.

The passenger of the car reported her husband, 31-year old Azariyah Yizrael, physically assaulted her while he was driving. During the argument she said Yizrael sped up and drove the car into a concrete sign. Two young children were in car restraints in the back seat of the car. All four people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,

Yizrael is facing charges for malicious wounding, assault, reckless driving and more.

Video from viewer Randy Sullivan showed the moments firefighters responded to the scene, with the car engulfed in flames. Firefighters were seen in the video getting the fire under control minutes after their arrival.
