PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The enrollment period is underway for the 2019 toll relief program, the Virginia Department of Transportation says.

In a news release, VDOT said the enrollment will be open until Feb. 15, 2019 — with benefits taking effect starting March 1.

This is the third year of VDOT’s toll relief program, which is designed to help certain residents who use the Downtown or Midtown tunnels a certain number of times each month.

To qualify, you must live in Portsmouth or Norfolk, earn $30,000 or less per year and have an E-ZPass.

Drivers get a a 75-cent refund for each trip after their E-ZPass records eight or more trips in a given month. There is no limit on the number of discounted trips a driver can get in a month.

VDOT said enrollment is being held in-person at E-ZPass customer service centers in Norfolk and Portsmouth to protect residents’ personal information.
