Employee shot during attempted robbery at VB Harris Teeter

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — An employee was shot overnight Wednesday after police say three suspects tried to rob a Harris Teeter in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police said officers were dispatched to the Ferrell Parkway location just before 12:45 a.m. for a report that someone had been shot.

Police said a man who was shot was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening. It was later confirmed by police that this man was a store employee.

Officers spoke with other employees at the scene, who said three suspects — who were wearing dark clothes and masks — tried to rob the store. At least one of the suspects was armed.

Police said the robbery was unsuccessful, and the suspects fled the store.

Police later released a photo of a person of interest in the case.

This isn’t the only recent incident like this in the area.

Virginia Beach police confirmed there was an armed robbery at the Food Lion in Woods Corner this past Saturday.

The Food Lion is just four miles away from the Harris Teeter. In that case, two male suspects showed a gun and demanded money from employees. No one at the Food Lion was injured during the robbery but the suspects got away. Police have not confirmed if the two cases are related.
