Elderly woman dies after apartment fire in Hampton

UPDATE (4/2/18): The 85-year-old woman taken to the hospital died Sunday night at the hospital, fire officials say. Her exact cause of death is unknown at this time. Officials say the fire appears to have been accidental.


HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — One person is in critical condition after firefighters rescued them from an apartment fire Sunday night. 

Hampton fire officials say the emergency call for the fire came in just before 8 p.m. for the 100 block area of Martha Lee Drive. 

The resident firefighters rescued from the fire was transported to a local hospital and is displaced from their Paula Maria Village apartment. 

Officials say another individual was treated and released at the scene due to smoke inhalation.
