JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A dump truck overturned on Interstate 64 Friday morning, spilling gravel across the highway and causing an hours-long closure.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the crash happened around 6 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-64. Traffic cameras with the Virginia Department of Transportation showed the crash scene was just past Busch Gardens.
Eastbound were closed through the morning commute.
A detour was setup at the Busch Gardens exit, and drivers were turned around at the scene. The detour caused heavy traffic on secondary roadways in James City County.
Anaya says a heavy duty wrecker was called to the scene to clean up the gravel.
