CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were hit by a car while they were standing outside of their vehicles after an accident on the Route 168 Chesapeake Expressway Friday afternoon.
Chesapeake Assistant Fire Marshal Captain Steve Bradley says the incident began with a two-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of the bypass near the Battlefield Boulevard accident.
The two vehicles involved in the accident pulled over to the shoulder of the road and both the drivers got out of their vehicles to exchange information, according to Bradley.
Another vehicle that was traveling northbound on the bypass at the time hydroplaned, crossed the median and struck the two drivers. Both were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but Bradley says their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The City of Chesapeake’s traffic Twitter account posted that the southbound lanes on Route 168 at Battlefield Boulevard were closed for a period of time. They have since reopend.
