Driver hits two poles, flees from crashed pickup in downtown Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The driver of a pickup truck crashed into two poles and a church’s planting bed before fleeing the scene Wednesday night in Suffolk. 

The crash happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 200 block of North Main Street near the intersection of Finney Avenue, according to Suffolk officials. 

Police say the driver of the late model Ford hit the poles and a raised planting bed in front of First Baptist Church before leaving the scene on foot. A man in the passenger’s seat was treated by medics at the scene before being taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. 

Officers have yet to locate the driver and say the investigation is ongoing. North Main Street near Finney opened to traffic at 7:43 p.m. after being closed.
