NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A driver is facing charges after a man who was injured in a March 1 crash in Newport News died late last week.
Newport News police said officers responded to the 5000 block of Jefferson Avenue around 9:15 p.m.
Police said the crash happened when a 28-year-old man driving north in Jefferson hit a pole at what was reportedly a high rate of speed. Three people inside the car were rescued and taken to the hospital after the crash.
The driver, Clinton Tyrice McPhail, and a 20-year-old woman both had serious but not life-threatening injuries. The third person, 21-year-old Dallas N. Blowe, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Police said Blowe died in the early morning hours of Friday, March 8.
McPhail has been charged with DUI – involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit.
