Driver attempts to merge lanes on I-264, ends up under stopped trailer

VIRGINIA BEACH. Va. (WAVY) — A car ended up underneath a trailer that was being pulled by a truck on Interstate 264, causing major backups Sunday morning.

Virginia State Police say a Dodge Ram with four occupants was pulling a Keystone Travel Trailer in the westbound lanes of I-264 near Independence Boulevard when the trailer’s brakes locked up.

Both the truck and the trailer got stuck in lane two. Troopers say crews were dispatched to assist the truck around 10 a.m., but the call was soon updated to a crash situation.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a Nissan Altima had gotten stuck underneath the trailer.

Troopers say the driver of the Altima had attempted to slow down and merge right for the congested traffic caused by the truck and trailer. Instead, the driver ended up rear-ending the trailer and getting stuck underneath.

There were no injuries reported from the incident and no charges have been filed against either of the drivers, according to State Police.
