HAMPTON Va. (WAVY) — A shots fired incident on a busy Hampton road and a shooting that left two men injured over the weekend may be connected, police say.
Hampton police said in a news release officers responded to the first incident in the 4000 block of West Mercury Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report of an attempted maiming.
Police said an investigation found two 22-year-old women were in a vehicle going eastbound when someone in a black vehicle began firing at them.
To avoid getting shot, the woman driving the vehicle swerved and went off the road, hitting a bush in the process. No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Dispatchers received a call around 2:45 a.m. for a shooting in the 100 block of Friendly Drive, police said.
Responding officers found a 25-year-old man and a 36-year-old man at the scene who were suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the two men were getting out of a vehicle when someone in a black-colored vehicle fired shots before fleeing the area.
The men were taken to a local hospital with injuries considered not life-threatening, police said.
Police said the two incidents appear to be related.
