Dog dies in Gloucester house fire

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) – Multiple fire crews responded to a structure fire Saturday evening. 

Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue say they were notified around 7:38 p.m. for the fire in the 7700 block of Beaver Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters saw a two story home engulfed in flames and smoke. 

The fire was extinguished but crews were called back out around 6:50 a.m. Sunday morning for areas of the house that had rekindled. 

There were no reported injuries to the homeowners or firefighters on scene. One dog was found deceased. 

The home is a total loss and the residents will be displaced. They have been offered assistance from the American Red Cross. 

Firefighters from Abingdon, Mathews and King and Queen assisted with the fire. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
