SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A portion of U.S. 58 in Suffolk was closed for several hours after officials say its fuel tank ruptured.
City officials said in a news release a crash involving a tractor-trailer was reported around 7:15 a.m. on U.S. 58 (Holland Road) at Grove Avenue.
Officials said a preliminary investigation found the tractor-trailer stopped suddenly, which caused the tank to rupture.
First responders contained the spilled diesel fuel to an adjacent drainage ditch. A private hazardous materials clean-up crew also responded to the scene.
There is no danger to the public or waterways, officials said.
The westbound right lane on U.S. 58 is expected was that closed for cleanup efforts was reopened Tuesday evening.
