Deputies, FBI working to gather info on missing Southampton Co. woman

NEWSOMS, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities are investigating the disppearance of a 34-year-old woman from Southampton County as a search party of friends and family members has gathered in the county.

Cynthia Carver was last seen by friends and family one week ago on Feb. 21.

Officials with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday deputies and agents are continuing to gather information on Carver, which includes daily interviews and searches.

The sheriff’s office said earlier this week evidence suggests Carver, who is a mother of two, did not leave of her own free will.

A knife was found on the floor of Carver’s home on Everett Street, along with several blood stains on the carpet and kitchen floor. Carver’s cellphone, purse and wallet are also missing, officials said.

Based on information from family and friends, officials said Cynthia was supposed to meet someone new the night she was last seen. It’s not known who that person is, but 10 On Your Side has learned investigators requested search warrants for Cynthia’s social media accounts and cellphone records.

A search party of friends, family members and residents met at the Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Newsoms Thursday morning to search for Carver.

Her family will also host a prayer service at the church at 7 p.m.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have had contact with Carver before or since her disappearance to call 757-653-2100.
