Currituck declares state of emergency for subdivision

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Officials in Currituck County have issued a state of the emergency for the Swan Beach subdivision.

In a Facebook post, county officials the declaration will allow them to begin pumping flood waters from impassable roads.

The measure comes following days of flooding across the County. Flood warnings were in effect Tuesday and Wednesday as rainfall soaked much of northeast North Carolina and Hampton Roads.

Officials are planning to place pumps along Albatross and Canary streets. Emergency pumping is also underway in the Ocean Sands and Spindrift communities.
