NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WRIC/WAVY) — A CSX freight train carrying several empty rail cars derailed in Newport News on Sunday night.

The derailment caused two Amtrak trains bound for Newport News to stop on the tracks just outside of Richmond, according to a tweet from Amtrak. Train 66 was delayed about 45 minutes, and Train 99 was delayed about an hour.

The train derailed around 6 p.m. at the rail yard in Newport News, CSX officials say. There were no injuries, and the train did not leak or spill anything.

“CSX personnel are assessing the situation and developing a plan to safely clear away the rail cars and resume normal train operations,” a CSX spokesperson said in a statement.
