Driver charged after police chase that ended in crash

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- A police chase that started on Dam Neck Road ended in a crash on Lynnhaven Parkway, early Friday morning.

Police say an officer tried to pull over a car at Dam Neck Road and Monet Drive around 1:05 a.m. The driver didn't stop and led police on brief pursuit. Deflation devices were used to stop the driver. The chase ended when the car crashed into a tree.

The suspect was not injured in the crash and was taken in to custody.

Michael Minh Dao, 49, has been charged with 2nd offense DUI, felony eluding and refusal of breath test. He was also issued three traffic citations.

Dao is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
