Crews to start dredging Thimble Shoal Channel soon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Crews will soon start dredging the Thimble Shoals Channel in the Chesapeake Bay.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in a news release it awarded a maintenance dredging contract to Manson Construction Co. on March 1.

Manson Construction will maintain 11 miles of the Chesapeake Bay Thimble Shoal Channel at a depth of 52 feet. The deeper water will allow for larger ships to get to and from Hampton Roads.

The dredging will within the next 30 days and will be finished by the end of August.
